JANET MARIE - BIOGRAPHY

Janet Marie, née Janet Allocca, is the “Allocca” in the talented songwriting team of Soroca & Allocca.   By the age of four, Janet was performing in backyard dance recitals, and by five, she was soloing at the local “Y”; piano study followed soon thereafter.  Ms. Marie graduated with High Honors from her high school in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and then made the Dean’s List and graduated with Distinction from prestigious Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.  Graduate school followed, where Ms. Marie earned an M.B.A. on a Mellon Grant from Pace University in New York City. 

After graduation, Janet Marie moved to Los Angeles, where she embarked on a long career behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.  She production managed a syndicated music show, “Jukebox”, as well as music videos for Rod Stewart, The Police, and Earth, Wind and Fire.  Joining ABC-TV, she became a unit manager and finance executive, with credits that included American Bandstand (post-production), General Hospital, and The Olympics.  Later, as an independent producer, Marie produced several radio shows, TV pilots, and seventy TV commercials. 

Janet Marie got into lyric writing quite by accident, and this led to an epiphany in 1994. When her theme song, “Love Patrol”, opened a show of the same name on KIEV-AM,  Janet realized that, more than any other aspect of the show’s production, it had been the lyric writing which most intrigued her.  “Poetry with 1001 rules” is how she described that craft, and after considerable study, she gradually shifted focus to music.  By 1998, she had teamed up with her longtime friend, Karen Soroca.  Since then, the two have been creating catchy, popular songs which connect with listeners in a strong, positive way.

 In addition to songwriting, Janet Marie runs Danstar Productions, the Malibu, CA-based music publishing/production company that oversees the business side for the partnership.  Janet is a member of ASCAP (writer/publisher), AFTRA and Women in Film.  Ms. Marie resides in Malibu Canyon and happily calls Maui her “home away from home”.
