EVE SMITH: BIOGRAPHY
Eve
Smith, A.K.A. Mother Goose, has lived the lives of five women, spanning
the twentieth century.
She
was born in the deep South, the youngest girl of five children in a very
strict but loving Southern Baptist family whose ancestors have been in
this country since the Revolutionary War.
Much of her childhood sounds like Huckleberry Finn.
She married, as most women did, at a very early age with very few
skills outside the home. Divorced
at a time when the word let alone the deed was scandalous, she had no
alternative but to return home to the roost until she met her true love,
A.Y. Smith, an Air Force Officer and pioneer who wrote many of the books
on navigation still in use today. They
were married for seventeen and a half years.
Her husband was the second highest ranking P.O.W. captured by the
Germans during the second World War.
Although he survived that experience, several years later, he was
killed in an airplane crash leaving Eve a widow with three small
children and no financial support.
Tragedy
didn’t stop Eve. She knew
she had to go to work and also back to school.
She became an accountant, entering a highly guarded male
profession. With the help
of her devoted sister, Marion, she saw to it that all three children
completed their educations and created good lives of their own.
Her
dating life as a widow in the fifties could be part of a modern day soap
opera with all the so called “unmarried” men.
Unattached women definitely didn’t have the same status or
respect in those days.
But
it was later in life once the children were grown that Eve became
involved in her own creativity. She
wrote three published books on her family’s genealogy.
Her last career started simply because she was bored.
Her youngest son, Dennis, was a night club entertainer.
She began singing silly songs with him all over Florida, then
soloed it to Las Vegas where she became a headliner stand-up comedian,
all at the tender age of seventy-three.
Studying and working hard, she made her way to Los Angeles where
she won the title of Playboy Comedienne of the year which helped launch
her very successful T.V. and film career.

Eve,
who lived to age 92, spent the last few years of her life back in
Florida where it all began, surrounded by friends and family. Her humorous way of dealing with life and attitude that,
indeed, it’s never too late for anything (well almost anything) kept
her going!

INTRO..and
a taste of Eve..
"Pssst… Want to buy a book? Do you crave for another Hollywood expose written by an
actress who has ruthlessly clawed her way to the top and is now ready to
tell all? Do you lust for
behind the scenes gossip from a woman who knew them all and well (in the
biblical sense), a jezebel who stole their souls and left them
broken-hearted and penniless? Are
you starving for the story of a totally out of control down and out drug
addict? *Well, my name is
Eve Smith, I’m ninety-two years old and NONE of the above, in fact, I
didn’t start my acting career until I was seventy-three.
Okay, so I’m not a sex symbol and although I’ve made eighteen
movies, I’ve never made one star. But, at ninety-two, I don’t claim to be an angel.
No, I lost my ingenue status a long time ago.
When and how is none of your business unless, of course, you read
this book.
Still thirsting for a sordid story? Have a little patience - like I used to tell my husband, A.Y.,
“just give me a few minutes to warm up.”
Of course, I’ve been warming up for most of the twentieth
century. Although my life
hasn’t always been wild and crazy, it hasn’t been A LITTLE HOUSE ON
THE PRAIRIE either and I do have a story to tell.
Ready?"
*It
saddens me [Karen Soroca] to report that on August 28, 1997, Eve Smith
passed away very peacefully in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
As co-writer, I will make sure that her story is told to all.
